TURBOO® represents a new generation of structural building elements based on giant bamboo. The material combines high load-bearing capacity, low weight, and a sustainable raw material base. This results in high-performance components for architecture, infrastructure, and industrial construction.
Product development aims to establish a new building material standard that is both technically advanced and globally scalable.
The Product
TURBOO® forms the basis for high-performance structural building elements. The material is used to create beams, posts, and other load-bearing components for a wide variety of applications in the construction industry.
The combination of high stiffness, high strength, and low self-weight enables efficient structures with large spans. At the same time, the material’s structure opens up new possibilities for hybrid structures and innovative construction methods.
TURBOO® components can be used in both traditional structural frameworks and modular building systems, thereby meeting the diverse requirements of the construction industry. Production follows a consistent circular approach: residual materials are fully recycled and converted into synergistic products — no waste is generated.
Hybrid Components
A particular advantage of TURBOO® lies in its combination with other materials to create hybrid components. This opens up new design possibilities in which material performance, weight, resource efficiency, and constructability are specifically optimized.
A key area of application is the upgrading of fast-growing or low-grade woods, such as short-rotation woods like Kiri. Through the targeted integration of TURBOO® into tension and compression zones, existing wood products can be upgraded to significantly higher strength classes.
Furthermore, hybridization with materials such as glued laminated timber, cross-laminated timber, laminated veneer lumber, or carbon fibers enables the development of high-performance, application-specific components. The respective material properties are intelligently combined to maximize load-bearing capacity and efficiency.
For applications subject to particularly high stresses — such as bridges, wind turbines, or high-rise buildings — high-performance systems are created in which TURBOO®, as a structural core material, opens up new dimensions in lightweight construction and structural design.
Applications
TURBOO® opens up new fields of application for high-performance and sustainable structural systems in construction and infrastructure.
The material is used in particular in load-bearing structures in multi-story residential construction, in modular and serial building systems, as well as in industrial hall and roof structures. Other areas of application include infrastructure projects with large spans, such as bridges, applications in wind turbine construction, and in container and modular construction. Hybrid structures in combination with wood or other materials are also among the key areas of application.
Thanks to its high specific stiffness, strength, and low self-weight, TURBOO® enables particularly efficient, material-reduced, and resource-conserving construction methods.
Roadmap
The development of TURBOO® follows a clear technological and industrial roadmap.
The goal is to gradually develop the material from a pilot project into a building material used internationally.
The next steps include setting up the first pilot production facility, implementing initial reference and pilot projects, expanding production capacities, and scaling the technology internationally.
In the long term, TURBOO® is set to become established worldwide as a new standard in building materials.
